A benefit for Mia Marie Morrison - 5-10-08
What - A benefit for Mia Marie Morrison - http://www.helpmiamarie.com
Why - We are collecting donations from local organizations in the Philadelphia region. Our goal is to raise enough money so this family can continue to live and spend time with their newborn. Mia was born on Friday February 8th, 2008. She had no complications when she was born. Kevin, Erin, and Mia were sent home Sunday from Bryn Mawr Hospital. The following day is when this nightmare begins. Monday Kevin and Erin noticed Mia's color starting to change, not knowing what to do they rushed her to their pediatricians office. The pediatrician noticed odd behavior right away and called an ambulance to have little Mia rushed to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was then hooked up to almost every machine a baby can be attached to. Rigorous tests were performed and doctors told Kevin and Erin that Mia was consistently having seizures, and they didn't know what is causing them or how long she has been having them. After a few days they were able to provide medication that would prevent the seizures, so they could run cat scans on her brain for activity. The next day is when they received the worst news of all. The doctors told Kevin and Erin that their child had little brain activity, and would most likely never be able to breathe on her own. Kevin and Erin had a tough decision, a decision that no parent should ever have to make. In protecting Erin, Kevin decided to remove the ventilator and let God be the judge on whether baby Mia should, or should not be with us. Kevin said "If she is meant to be here, I will take care of my little girl till' the day I die." Here we are two weeks later and baby Mia is overcoming all odds. She is breathing on her own, and making progress every day. No one knows what the outcome of this story may be, but what we do know is that we have a miracle baby among us.
Mia is going to need special care when she gets home, and she is going to need special equipment. It is very hard to be financially prepared for a situation as this, and it can only add to the stress of an already delicate situation. I would like to relieve as much stress from this family and raise as much money as possible. Let’s give Mia a chance to survive, and let’s give a family some hope.
When - May 10th 2008 From 7PM - 12AM
Where - St. Kevin's Parish Hall, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064
Who - Anyone is welcome, tickets are available and required for entry.

Hike for Discovery is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares hikers to experience a hike of a lifetime while raising funds for the Society. Hike for Discovery trains and provides beginning as well as experienced hikers everything they need to have the adventure of a lifetime. This year's hike destination is the Colorado Rockies. During my training period (roughly 16 weeks), I will be raising funds to help The Society find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancers.
When: Training from 2/08 through 5/08. Featured Hike is 6/7/08.
Where: Training is all over S.E. PA. Featured hike is Mount Lady Washington in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
Why: Cancer has stricken my family twice in the past 3 years. My sister Dorothy Brady/Cosgrove passed away in Jan. 05 while my Uncle Joe Rodia passed last year. Dot was 46 and left a beautiful daughter while Joe was 54 and left 4 great sons and a wonderful wife. A lot of people helped my family during those hard time in a number of ways. Now I want to give back. More than 820,000 Americans are battling these horrific cancers. Since its beginning, Hike for Discovery has raised over $6.6 million towards cancer research and patient services. Every little bit helps and I am trying to do my share.

A Mission to Visit Every Wawa in Existence By 2010
Who: Emily Koch, Ann Wuetig, Mary Speer, Jill Fitzpatrick, and Andi Sasin
What: Our Mission is to visit every Wawa in existence by 2010.
Where: WAWA! Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland
Why: Because we love Wawa! We have always had a love for Wawa. It was a crucial part of our high school social outings. Several of us have moved away from the area where there are no Wawas (Pittsburgh, DC, Rhode Island, Penn State, Chicago). We realized how special Wawa is, and no other convenience store was able to compare. This only grew our appreciation for Wawa.
When: Visit all of the Wawas in existance by 2010.
Contact Information: Please see our website at http://wawa2010.blogspot.com OR email Emily at Emilymayk7@yahoo.com
